center_img Rome has introduced a spate of new rules and regulations to govern ‘poor behaviour’ in the city.Rome is cracking down on bad tourist behaviour with a bunch of new rules and regulations that ban everything from jumping in historic fountains to wandering around bare-chested and sucking on public water fountains.The Italian city has introduced a long list of restrictions which can result in a poorly behaved tourist receiving a fine or even being removed from the area.Eating messy foods around popular tourist attractions and dragging luggage or pushchairs up and down the Spanish Steps are also now illegal.Even local business and touts have been targeted, with bans on organised pub crawls and those who advertise “skip-the-line” tours outside monuments.Virginia Raggi, the mayor of Rome, told The Telegraph: “Rome is, and always will be, welcoming, but that does not mean tolerating bad behaviour and damage being done to our city.”Rome is following Venice’s lead which introduced a long list of its own measures over the last couple of years.Venice’s #EnjoyRespectVenezia campaign, which launched in 2017, states that tourists are welcome but only if they respect the new rules.last_img
